It started on a random day off when hunger was winning. I saw my friends having a little get-together and immediately asked the most important question: “Do you have Jollof rice over there?” When they said yes, I was in my car within minutes, no makeup, no glam, just me on a mission.

When I arrived and couldn’t find parking, I called my friend for help. And then he stepped outside. Tall, handsome, broad-chested, with a smile that made everything stop. “Sacrifice” by Elton John was playing on the radio, and for a moment, I forgot all about food.

I didn’t know his name yet, but something in me knew that moment meant something.

Weeks later, at another party, I begged my friend to invite him. By then, I had already found him on Instagram and Facebook, so let’s just say… I was invested. I showed up looking my best, but when he walked in, I panicked and ran into a room like a character in a rom-com.
